1973 BBC series depicting life in the Royal Navy abroad the fictional HMS Hero. Starring David Savile, Donald Burton, James Cosmo and John Lee. Written and filmed to reflect the accurate realities of life in the Royal Navy and for the Royal Marines in the 1970s, with stories focused on the Captain and his fellow officers, as well as life on the lower decks. The series saw close collaboration between the Royal Navy and the BBC, and its main script editor Ian Mackintosh was a real serving Royal Navy officer. Episodes featured a variety of events at sea, including during the Cold War, smuggling, the evacuation of civilians from crisis and hit places, etc., as well as the personal lives of officers and the impact their own lives had on their professional lives and duties.
