The Vintage Chiller & Thriller Collection (DVD)
Nine classic British thrillers. In The House in Marsh Road (1960) a troubled man plots to kill his wife, with the help of his mistress, to inherit her country house but they get their comeuppance when karma gives the worst punishment they could have imagined as they discover the house is haunted. In The Trollenberg Terror (1958) a scientist arrives at a small alpine village by the mountain of Trollenberg to investigate the decapitation of a mountaineer. But nothing can prepare him for what lurks in the radioactive fog and the mountain peak. Fire Maidens from Outer Space (1956) follows a group of astronauts as they travel to the 13th moon of Jupiter. There, they meet a group of beautiful women who are seeking mates. However, they also live in fear of a dangerous monster. In Tread Softly (1952) the film centres around a London theatre but the drama moves from the musical on stage to a murder backstage - what secrets await the cast in the wings of the theatre? In Blood of the Vampire (1958) Dr. Callistratus (Donald Wolfit) carries out sinister experiments on his patients at a mental institution but a new arrival threatens his clandestine operation. In The Fall of the House of Usher (1950) young traveller Jonathan (Irving Steen) visits his noble friend Roderick Usher (Kay Tendeter). But upon arrival, Jonathan discovers that Lord Roderick and his twin sister Lady Usher (Gwen Watford) are both seriously ill as a result of a curse placed upon their house by an ancient ancestor, dooming the siblings to a horrible early death. In The Monkeys Paw (1948) Mr. Trelawne (Milton Rosmer) comes into possession of a magical monkeys paw which can provide three wishes - but at a price. Crow Hollow (1952) follows newly-weds Ann Amour (Natasha Parry) and her husband as they go to stay at the ancient home of his three eccentric aunts. They stay quickly escalates, spiralling into something beyond imagination and far from what Ann has envisioned for married life as she soon becomes convinced her life is in great danger. The Curse of the Wraydons (1946) Staring Philip Wraydon (Tod Slaughter), an inventive and remorseless spy working for Napoleon who harbours a serious grudge against England and, in particular, his brothers family.
