Ex-library: Three volume set published in 1902 by Oxford at the Clarendon Press.  Green cloth cover with gilt titles and stamps on the spine and front cover.  The top page edges are gilt but the other edges are rough cut.  The corners on all the volumes are bumped.  All three have tipped notices inside the front cover for Newport Public Libraries and are stamped \'Discarded from stock\'.  The hinge of volume 1 is a little loose but still attached and the fep is discoloured but there is no foxing.  Volume 1\'s frontispiece is an engraving of St John\'s Gate in London which was the site of the Revels Office from 1571 to 1610.  On the facing title page there is a patch of pink paper.  The remainder of the book is clean, bright and tightly bound, there are library stamps throughout the book.  Volume 2\'s frontispiece is a facsimile of the title page of Lyly\'s first novel \"Euphues\", and there are similar facsimiles of title pages of his books later in the text.  The fep is discoloured like volume 1 and there is a little foxing on the following pages, on the title page there is a similar patch of pink paper where something tipped in has been removed.  Volume 3\'s frontispiece is a facsimile of a letter by Lyly which contains his signature, the condition internally is similar to the first two volumes except that there is a lot more foxing on the first few pages and a little at the back of the book.  This is a first complete collection of John Lyly\'s works which were originally published in his lifetime in the mid 16th century to the early 17th century.
