This is a signed original watercolour of a waterfall scene at Shiel House (Highlands). Artwork: 34cm x 52cm Frame: 54cm x 72cmEdward Hargitt (born in Edinburgh) studied art in the Royal Scottish Academy and was a good painter of landscapes, which often auction at Christie\'s. He became also an ornithologist and developed into an expert on woodpeckers. He was the author of the monograph on Picidae for the Catalogue of the Birds in the British Museum, published in 1890. During later years, he prepared 1300 drawings of woodpeckers for a proposed monograph. The original monograph “Book of Reference to the Picidae” (1895) is currently kept in the funds of the State Darwin Museum in Moscow, Russia.
