This typescript with diagrams is based upon a lecture given by M. G. Ionides of Doxiadis Ionides Associates of London in 1965 at a conference organised by the Ministry of Overseas Development at Imperial College London. Ionides identifies that humanity increasingly cannot rely upon \"wild\" water that is waiting to be managed to supply populations and industry. Instead all need to work together to increase our understanding of water resource management as both the number of people and increasing demand for water per head lead to pressure on this resource. This leads to more searching for new supplies of water as well as the need for more research on how water can be better managed.
