Spine ends are bumped, spine faded, but overall it is in good condition with clear and clean pages throughout. It is a historical document in its own right, with Lloyd’s history rooted in the sea and seafaring. The book sets out the “plain and unvarnished tale of the origin, constitution, and practical working of the Society known as Lloyd’s Register of Shipping”. The organisation has proved broad and strong with “a voluntary association of Underwriters, Ship owners and Shipbuilders primarily for the purpose of classifying Mercantile Marine of all nations”.
