Decorate your patio and the front of borders with the pretty semi-evergreen grass from Johnsons Grass Stipa Tenuissima Seeds. Known as Pony Tails for its fine, hair-like foliage, it waves in the slightest of breezes. It is a good source of winter food for seed eating birds. Can be cut and dried to make indoor winter arrangements. Indoor sowing: January to March, in trays of seed compost. Sow thinly, cover lightly with a fine layer of compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Cover with glass, polythene or propagator lid. Keep at approx. 20ºC. Germination may be slow and erratic. Seedlings appear 14-42 days. Remove cover when seedlings appear. When large enough transplant small clumps to individual 7.5cm pots. Stand outside for a few days late May (avoid frosts). Transplant 30cm apart in growing position. Keep moist and weed free especially in containers. Flowers July to October, the same year. TIP: Cut back in winter, mature plants can be divided in spring
