Prized for its tasty seeds as well as its ornate flowers and fascinating seed pods, you can grow this plant easily with our Nigella Black Caraway seeds. The seeds add authentic flavour to a wide range of Asian dishes. The pretty nigella flowers are great for borders or growing in drifts. Outdoor sowing: Sow thinly in a prepared seed bed in flowering position in rows 20cm (8in) apart. Cover with 0.5cm (quarter inch) of fine soil, firm gently and keep moist. Seedlings usually appear in 14-28 days. Make 2-3 sowings for successive flowering. Growing on, when large enough thin to 15cm (6in) apart. Keep moist and weed free. Protect late sowings with cloches in cold weather. Late sowings flower the following year. TIP: Hang plants upside down for drying.
