A striking colour to add to the back of the border, the Johnsons Seeds Hollyhock Nigra is a beautiful addition to your backyard garden. Features deep purple maroon, cup shaped flowers on tall stately stems. Indoor sowing March to June, in trays of seed compost. Sow thinly, cover with a fine layer of compost. Firm gently and keep moist. Cover tray with glass, polythene or propagator lid. Keep at approx. 15˚C. Seedlings appear 21-28 days. Remove cover when seedlings appear. When large enough transplant singly to 7.5cm pots. Gradually acclimatise plants to outside conditions. Transplant 60cm apart in flowering position from summer onwards. Flowers June to August, the following year. Outdoor sowing May to July, in a prepared seed bed. Sow thinly in rows 30cm apart. Cover lightly with fine soil. Firm gently and keep moist. Transplant 60cm apart in flowering position from September to October. Flowers June to August, the following year.
