Dahlias are invaluable for the summer border, in patio containers or as cut flowers, flowering until the first frosts. Remove dead flower heads and one dahlia tuber will produce hundreds of flowers. Soil requirements: Any garden soil with a good supply of organic matter. Increase organic matter by adding farmyard manure or garden compost to your soil. Digging the soil before planting is recommended. Plant dahlia tubers with the single stem facing upwards and the bundle of roots facing downwards.
