A Comprehensive (thick) pocket guide to the aves of the tropical pacific. Three quarters of the book is taken up with descriptions of each species, with a liberal scattering of b/w drawings. A checklist is provided covering Hawaii, Micronesian High Islands (eg Guam, Truk, and Palau etc), Central Pacific islands (eg Wake, Gilbert, Tuvalu, and Tokelau etc), Central & South-eastern Polynesia (US Somoa, Tonga, Cook, Tahiti, and Pitcairn etc), and Fiji. The last part is used for the colour plates showing detailed paintings of each species, with a short section at the back with colour photographs of the plants considered important to both the birds and bird-watchers. The index has tick-boxes beside each bird name.
