The paperweight is created using molten ruby red glass that is gathered and encased in clear glass. Once the shape is formed and the paperweight is cooled, the front of the paperweight is ground and polished creating a smooth facet on which the flecks are applied. Since 1963 and now under the stewardship of Dartington crystal, the team of skilled Caithness glass designers and craftsmen continue to explore and push the boundaries of glass making whilst embracing modern developments in technology to produce high quality paperweights that are recognised the world over as the market leader.
