The Dean of Christ Church Henry Liddell\'s eldest daughter Alice was the inspiration for Carroll\'s titular protagonist. When Lorina Liddell, Henry\'s wife, saw her children so engaged in Carroll\'s stories, she persuaded him have them published. The first Alice tale was published in 1865 and has continued to captivate people of all ages to this day.
