The Flower Series Staunton Chessmen are a unique take on the classic Staunton design with plenty of character. The knights have wide open mouths and appear to be having an in-depth conversation with each other. This version of the Flower Series comes from the genuine originator of the design and has been crafted to an extremely high standard. The polishing of the pieces is of a grade usually only seen on much more expensive chess sets. Each piece is double weighted with a felted base, the seamless polishing and crisply defined edges produces chess men that feel wonderful to the fingers; something you appreciate more once you start playing chess with them. The base of the king has a diameter of 1.3 inches (33 mm) which makes this set ideal for our 16 - 18 inch (40 - 45 cm) solid wooden chess boards. The whole set has been crafted in fine graded boxwood. The black pieces have been stained a deep black using a process called ebonising, which gives an extremely convincing appearance of real ebony.
