The rook is one of the outstanding pieces within this set thanks to a sturdy, urn shaped outline. The hand turned upper curve represents some of the best workmanship we have seen on a chess piece here at Regency for a long time. As well as the aesthetic quality, the rounded middle allows a player to comfortably hold the piece in hand. These golden rosewood and boxwood chess pieces are all finished individually and so all differ slightly. Every set, in itself, therefore, is a complete one-off.
