Rosewood, ebony and red sandalwood are the three hardwoods we commission most of our high end chess pieces to be carved from, although it takes something more than just elite materials to gain entry to the Regency Chess Luxury Chess Pieces collection. Entrant pieces must be hand carved and turned manually to ensure absolutely that the closest thing to perfection is achieved. For this reason we meet all of our suppliers and visit them wherever they are in the world. The Modica Rosewood Chessmen are an addition to our range sourced from Italfama in Florence, Italy, a company we trust implicitly to maintain their consistently high standard of craftsmanship. Italian craftsmanship This chess set has a sturdy, 3 inch king standing alongside a wonderfully rounded queen. It is the rook in this set of Italian chessmen, though, that really grabs the attention. Its flared top is remarkable if understated, and is a chess piece that looks particularly impressive in solid rosewood, with lines of deep red grain running vertically through. The knight is also excellently designed while the bishop shares the same triple-turned top rings as the king and queen. Traditionally we match these chess pieces with a leather board to create the luxury Modica Chess Set. However they sit well on any board between 14 and 18 inches (35 - 45 cm).
