The Regency Chess Company commissioned this chess set as its signature luxury product, not least because the company was founded in Bath, UK almost a decade ago. These imperious chessmen are astonishing in their aesthetic beauty and commanding presence on a chessboard. The knights in particular have been singled out for their detailed carving, endowed as they are with muscular yet composed expressions. Alongside them are bulbous bishops that have a little extra gumption than regular royal protectors. Every piece is crafted expertly by carpenters of the highest order, who are expressly trained in the use of ebony. These master craftsmen hand turn and then painstakingly carve each ornament in a process that takes up to three months. And, while the knights may take the longest to make, the most substantial ornaments in this luxury chess set are undoubtedly the royals. With his urn shaped crown and flowered finial the king is a behemoth in chess terms, boasting a thick base and weighted body upon which the aforementioned detailing sits. Beneath these luxury chessmen is a Spanish made walnut chess board of 19 inches (48 cm). The ebony line that frames this board complements the Bath Series perfectly, creating an elegantly matched chess set.
