Decimalization in Britain came about as the shift from, 12 old pennies to the shilling and 20 shillings to the pound turned into 100 new pennies making a pound. This was to make it simple multitudes of 10 and 100. This change took place in February 1971 (this was further behind other countries including US and France who made the change in the 1790s). This Events mug displays a yellow banner with red capital script that reads ‘Decimalization 50 years’. The banner is set upon a blue background and the mug is adorned with a collection of coins memorabilia; old – shilling, six pence, crown and more, as well as the new – fifty pence piece, ten pence, penny and more. On the reverse of the mug is a maths prep page with an illustration of a child at a desk with words about school maths, along with a shop keeper serving a customer in 1971.
