The first scene depicts Siegfried, as he aims his crossbow at a swan, only to watch her transform into a beautiful maiden, Odette. The scene on the reverse of the mug depicts a meeting between Odile and her father, the evil owllike sorcerer, Rothbart. The design also features graceful white swans that frame both scenes, and a single feather decorating the handle for a finishing flourish.
