Rachel often uses the female figure as a subject immersed in turbulent ‘seas’ of ink and paint, sprayed gold mists, and landscapes of illegible text and markmaking. Her work is inspired by Automatism – the subconscious drawing techniques explored in the Surrealist movement. The viewer gets lost in these layers attempting to decypher hidden messages and juxtaposed imagery.
