Exploring ideas of confinement, our relationship to environment and the changing emotions that these things have brought about during the current pandemic is the focus of our Winter Show. Each artist was offered the theme of ‘emergence’ to consider and respond to with new work. “These pieces are part of an ongoing project using sound and image. I often record environments in sound, and work in response to the audio, creating drawings which can function as a graphic score or rhythmic abstraction of place. This series, Notes On Sound reflects on underwater soundscapes, the organic and the mechanic. Whilst making this work I reflected on hidden boundaries and barriers in our own communication and that of other species, the filtration of information through ambient noise, and how that process can be hindered. During this restricted living situation, swimming in the sea became an important part of my daily routine and I often contemplated the act of submerging and the subsequent change in sensory environment and vivid soundscape that invites.  The colour and translucent layers are inspired by light splintering the sea and flashes of vibrant colour found beneath the surface. “ Holly Drewett
