Almost ten years later the costume department was introduced directed by Edward William Godwin (1833–86) and the business grew from strength to strength building strong relationships with English designers creating an in-house apparel to challenge the fashions of Paris. Today Liberty is owned by the firm Blue Gem Capital and is best known for its own brand collections of fabrics, homeware, accessories and ready-to-wear fashion.
