Much is made of his Viking heritage around the distillery and there is little doubt that, being based on Orkney some 16km north of the Scottish mainland, that the climate is certainly pretty wild being surrounded by stormy seas. Despite its remoteness though, the temperature is relatively steady across the year (rarely varying out of between 2 and 16 degrees) which perfect for maturing whisky.
