WHAT IS SUPEROXIDE DISMUTASE (SOD)? Free radicals are naturally produced by our bodies when exposed to harmful environmental toxins such as cigarette smoke, pollution, household chemicals and highly processed foods. These free radicals can cause damage to our cells in a process known as “oxidative stress”. One free radical created in the body is called “Superoxide”. To minimise the damage caused by this free radical, our bodies produce an enzyme called “superoxide dismutase”.
