The way people listen to music has changed dramatically in the time Ive been making and releasing music and for me, each medium has a different purpose and requires a different approach. Interludes, which were a huge part of Handbuilt By Robots, make no sense being streamed on an online playlist, but work amazingly on CD. Vinyl is a different experience again. So, Ive decided to package this album differently for each; streaming sites will get a 17 track album, with no interludes to clog up your shuffles, the CD will be 17 tracks plus interludes for a smoother flow, and the vinyl will be 11 tracks, specially curated by me, to work on one disk with the best possible flow from one side to the other and the best possible sound quality.For the merch, the album name Interference (Of Light) and all the amazing artwork gave us a huge head start. I worked with the incredibly talented Mike Storey on these designs and all the artwork for the project. The scientific meaning of the interference of light (a phenomenon in which two waves superimpose to form the resultant wave of the lower, higher or same amplitude - like light hitting a bubble or oil) inspired all the colours and patterns.For the digital album download, the interludes included on the CD dont make sense, because if youve got a bunch of songs from multiple albums on shuffle, theyll just get in the way, so for streaming and other digital mediums, itll be 17 tracks with no messing around.
