Violin maker (1865 1930). He was the son of a Guitar maker, Charles Georges Brugere made his apprenticeship in 1878 with Etienne Drouin, in Mirecourt, staying until 1882. He joined Paul Blanchard in Lyon, Paul Bailly in Paris and, in 1885, Gand & Bernardel Frres in Paris. In 1892, Charles Brugere managed the business of Eugne Henry for three years before he established his own workshop in 1895 at 11 Rue du Faubourg Poissonnire Paris. He retired in 1920 in Mirecourt where he continued restoration works towards the end of his life. Charles Georges Brugere was an excellent maker and won a silver medal in 1900 at the Paris Universal Exhibition and a gold medal in 1905 at the Liege Universal Exhibition. He worked mainly after Stradivari and Amati. He built more than 250 violins and created 4 double basses with lion heads in the style of Gand and Bernardel. The back in two matching pieces of maple of strong medium curl descending across the back from the centre joint, the ribs, pegbox and scroll of similar curl. The front in two matching pieces of spruce of medium grain. The varnish of a rich red-orange colour on a yellow ground.
