Luminox ICE-SAR Arctic 1000 Series Watch XL.1002 The Case: The Luminox ICE-SAR Arctic 1000 Series Watch XL.1002 has been built using Luminox’s signature carbon fibre reinforced polymer case, otherwise known as Carbonox, a compound that is 40 compound in bar form. Despite being three time lighter than titanium, it is more scratch resistant than any other traditional alloy. It measures at 46mm in diameter, but it only weighs 52 grams. It features a fixed bezel, knurled oversized crown and a screw down stainless steel case back. Sapphire crystal glass sits on top of the case, it has been finished with an anti-reflective coating to allow for greater legibility. The Dial: The black dial has been stylised for simple legibility. The 12-hour and 24-hour time is displayed analogically through the use of a sub dial. The outer dial displays the time through the use of bold red arabic numerals, while a date window replaces the 3 o’clock marker. The 24-hour time is displayed through the inner dial, where the Luminox logo replaces the 24 hour marker. The cone-shaped cutout handset are inspired by the shape of the carabiners used by the Icelandic rescue teams. The dial is also fitted with no fewer than 14 tritium gaseous light tubes, which can be expected to glow steadily for around 25 years before needing replacement. The Strap: The black strap is made from genuine rubber, which is the perfect material for the strap of an adventure watch due it to its highly durable qualities. It fastens easily using a standard buckle, which has been embossed with the Luminox logo. The Functions: The Luminox ICE-SAR XL.1002 is powered by Swiss made Ronda 515 caliber movement. This provides the watch with a 45 month battery life. It also offers a hacking feature, meaning that the second hand stops when the crown is pulled out to time setting position. This can also be used as a battery saving mechanism, as when pulled out it will reduce battery consumption by 70 . It has a water resistance of 200 metres making it suitable for diving.
