Seiko Prospex ‘Captain Willard’ Automatic Black Dial Stainless Steel Bracelet Men’s Watch SPB183J1 The Case: The Seiko Prospex ‘Captain Willard’ SPB183J1 is a reinterpretation of the watch worn by Martin Sheen’s character. Captain Willard, in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1979 Vietnam War epic, Apocalypse Now . The case measures 42.7mm in width, which is somewhat slimmer than the original model which measured at 44mm. The reduction in size of this model makes it feel more authentic and in line with the sizing trends of the mid-seventies. The original model was made famous by the unique asymmetrical tonneau style case and crown positioned in at 4 o’clock. The brushed stainless steel case has been finished with super hard coating, which provides the watch with unparalleled durability and scratch resistance. A blue unidirectional bezel sits on top of the case, it displays a 60-minute scale and it features knurled edges that allow the wearer to easily rotate it. The sapphire crystal emebedded in the case provides teh watch with superlative scratch resistance. The glass has been treated an anti-reflective coating, which permits for optimum readability. On the back of the case, there is a screw down case back which provides greater protection against water. The Dial: The sapphire blue dial employs a simplitic layout which ensures the dial can be easily read. It consits of deeply applied baton-style hour markers that have been polished and filled with a luminescent material, which allows the dial to be read in the dark. A beveled baton-shaped hands occupies the centre of the dial, it has also been filled with LumiBrite material. The design of the dial continues to pays homage to the orginal Seiko 6105 through the adoption of the distinctive ‘traffic light’ style second hand. A date display window replaces the 3 o\'clock marker imitating the classic design of the original. The Strap: The bracelet is made from stainless steel and comes fashioned in a classic three-link oyster style. The simplistic design of the oyster bracelet was was first introduced by Rolex in 1948 and it has since enjoyed a close assosication with an array of dive watches, this is due to their utilitarian character that ensures functionaility. The bracelet fastens using a three fold clasp with a secure lock, to ensure it remains upon the wearer’s wrist. The Functions: Seiko’s 6R35 caliber automatic movement powers this timepiece, providing the watch with a 70 hour power reserve and an accuracy of +25 to -15 seconds per day. The high performance calibre movement also offers a hacking feature so that the time can be set precisely. Although the movement is automatic it also features a hand winding mechanism, which gives the wearer the option of powering the watch themselves. The watch has a water resistance of 200 metres.
