In size, in energy efficiency and in signal reception, it demonstrates how far Seiko’s technology has come since the introduction of the first GPS Astron Solar watch. The case is less than 40mm in diameter thanks to the reduced GPP reception antenna that uses components distributed across a single plate. The watch maintains the same high level of reception performance and offering a power reserve of approximately six months. Conveniently solar-powered; the watch charges from both natural and electric light with no need for a battery replacement. The Case: This Seiko Astron SSJ005J1 features a case that is made from stainless steel with a super hard coating that has been treated to a brushed finish. The case measures 39mm in diameter and 11mm in thickness. It exhibits a fixed black bezel that is made from ceramic, which is a material that is favourably used by luxury watch brands due to its superlative scratch and shatter resistance. The case also consists: of a screw down crown at 3 o’clock, a screw case back, bevelled lugs and sapphire crystal glass with a super-clear coating.  The Dial: The dial is presented in a black hue with silver accents. Applied silver baton-style hour markers are interspersed by a 60-minute track which is located on the dial’s chapter ring. In the centre of the dial there is an arrow/sword style handset which has a silver frame with a luminescent filling, which enables nighttime readability. A date-display window is located beside the 3 o’clock marker, whilst the Seiko logo is presented in silver beneath the 12 o’clock marker.  The Bracelet: The stainless steel braceleted is styled in the form of a classic 3-link oyster-style bracelet. It has also been treated to a brushed finish. It fastens securely around the wrist through the use of a three-fold clasp with push deployment.  The Functions: This timepiece is powered by caliber 3X22 GPS solar quartz which provides this watch with an accuracy of +/- 15 seconds per month.
