The Case: The Seiko Prospex Alpinist: 2021 European Limited Edition SPB197J1 has a stainless steel case measuring 39.5mm in diameter, with a thickness of 13.2mm. With dual oversized crowns, this watch is certainly a masculine iteration yet nonetheless one that remains elegant at all times. The use of sapphire glass ensures this is a highly resilient and versatile timepiece, reflecting the true nature of the Japanese mountaineers. The Dial: The dial of this limited edition Seiko Prospex Alpinist is presented a slick shade of emerald grey, evoking a sense of subtle splendour. Although the tonal aesthetics of this timepiece are subdued and toned-down it still embodies the true rugged functionality of the Alpinist collection. The three o’clock marker has been replaced by a date-window display that is magnified 2.5x by a cyclops. The centre of the dial is occupied by a cathedral style handset, providing the watch with a traditional utilitarian feel. They partly consist of a luminous material which allows for readability in areas of low light. A rotating compass inner ring is present at the outermost edge of the dial, allowing you determine an approximate direction. The Bracelet: The bracelet of the Seiko Prospex Alpinist comes in a conventional 3-link oyster style stainless steel design. It makes use of a brushed finish, which bestows the watch with further utilitarian features. A Seiko deployant clasp securely fastens the strap around the wearer’s wrist. The Function: Seiko’s 6R35 calibre movement powers this timepiece. It offers an astounding 70 hour power reserve and an accuracy of +25 to -15 seconds per day.
