This timepiece has been created in celebration of two key Seiko Watch Corporation anniversaries: 140 years since the beginning of Seiko and 60 years since the King Seiko was launched. ‘King Seiko’ originated when multiple Seiko factories created different watches to encourage healthy internal competition and drive innovation – one of the Japanese watch brand’s constant aims. In the 1950s and 60s, Daini-Seikosha and Suwa-Seikosha factories competed against one another; the Suwa team created Grand Seiko and the Daini experts invented King Seiko. The 2021 King Seiko has been updated from its original inspiration with uniquely shaped flat lugs, deeper glass, and a medallion design on the case back. A slightly bigger size than its first appearance, it is now 38.1mm where it was 36.5mm and features sapphire crystal glass. The manual winding movement from the original is Automatic in this new 2021 version, with a calendar to move with the times.Its stately, dignified and majestically classic looks remain. The Case: The Seiko SJE083J1 is a simple yet stunning watch reflecting the brand’s many years of expertise. Known as the King Seiko, The Seiko SJE083J1 has a sturdy stainless steel case with straight lugs and a crown at three o’clock. The dial is protected by a box-shaped sapphire crystal, which also boosts the solidity of the Seiko SJE083J1 and refers back to its roots as a classic dress watch. Measuring 38mm in diameter, this is an understated watch that is nonetheless sure to attract the attention of those possessing refined tastes. The Dial: With a silver dial, the Seiko SJE083J1 definitely has a formal feel to it. This is heightened by the presence of slim indices and numbers in silver colouring. The date window at three o’clock brings some added depth to the dial of the Seiko SJE083J1. The hands are elegantly slimline like much of this timepiece.
