Hardlex glass has also been used in order to provide further protection. There is also a non-screw down crown present besides the 4 o’clock marker, the crown guard has a brushed finish, which creates a subtle, yet satisfying, contrast between it and the rest of the polished case. On top of the case is a deep sea blue unidirectional bezel which can be used to time a run in the park, great for you sporting enthusiasts. The bezel has jagged edges which allow you to easily grip and spin it. The bezel is accurate up to the minute. The case back is transparent, which allows the wearer to view the inner mechanisms of the timepiece. The Strap: The silver bracelet of the watch is made from highly durable stainless steel and is in a Milanese style. This style of bracelet originated from Milan in Italy and are known by the unique design of the mesh work, which gives the distinctive look to any watch they\'re combined with. The design can be traced back far to the 13th century, when it was used as a special chain-mail. It can then be easily fastened using a sliding clasp to sit comfortably around your wrist. The Dial: The saxe blue dial is certain to catch the eye thanks to its sun-brushed design, which has the effect of the sun striking the dial. The saxe blue is complemented well by the white of the indexes and hands which is a luminous coating, allowing for easy visibility at night. The indexes have a silver surround whereas the hands have a blue surround which really allows them to pop out, grabbing your attention immediately. Positioned just below the 12 o\'clock index is the ever present Seiko logo alongside a day and date window at 3 o\'clock. Around the very edge of the dial are small second markers placed on the chapter ring. The Functions: The Seiko 5 Sports range boast Seiko’s new upgraded 4R36 automatic. It is the same movement that is found in more expensive Seiko models, such as the ‘Turtle’ that belongs to the Prospex range. The movement consists of 24 jewels and it operates at 21,600 beats per hour, this ensures the watch has 40 hours of power reserve. It includes Seiko Diashock, which essentially protects the inner mechanisms from any damage the watch may sustain if it were to be dropped or knocked. It is expected to either gain or loose between +45 / -35 seconds per day. The watch also comes with a hacking function. When the crown is pulled out to adjust the time the second hand will stop. This allows you to set the second hand for precision timing. Once the crown is pushed back in the hands will tick from that second.
