Seiko Prospex Samurai Automatic Black Dial Silver Stainless Steel Diver\'s Men\'s Watch SRPB51K1 RRP £399 History: Introduced in 1965, Seiko’s innovative diver’s watch has been chosen by divers and adventurers globally. Seiko’s diving watch has become a global standard as a result 50 years of innovation. What is the history behind this timepiece? Everything started with a letter from a professional diver in Hiroshima prefecture of Japan. The diver explained that in depths greater than 300 meters, when using a diving capsule and saturation diving techniques, most watches get damaged. Answering this request, Seiko established a new development team. After years of research development, the world’s first Professional Diver’s 600m with titanium case was created. This model, along with other Seiko\'s is so called the Samurai by enthusiasts because of the sword-shaped hands on the original. Style: A black dial features a slightly raised pattern which is called a Tapisserie dial. This type of guilloche pattern that leaves lots of small squares on the surface of the dial, separated by thin channels. A machine called a pantograph \'traces\' the tapisserie pattern from a larger mock-up design and engraves an exact copy onto the smaller watch dial. Each dial can take between 20 and 50 minutes to engrave depending on the size and type of finishing. Around the edge of the dial are silver indexes alongside the the ever present Seiko logo at the 12 o\'clock position. Surrounding the dial is a silver stainless steel case alongside hardlex crystal glass ontop to provide it with the class and protection it deserves. Then, a silver stainess steel bracelet can be fastened using a three fold clasp. This clasp comes with a secure lock and extender to make sure it is a safe and comfortable fit. Functions: This watch is powered by a Seiko exclusive 4R35 automatic movement. This movement has an incredible 41 hour power reserve duration which means you can forget the time for the weekend. Additionally, a manual wind function allows the watch to be quickly wound by spinning the crown located at the 3 o\'clock position. The crown has is protected by a steel surround which will prevent it with any knocks from diving equipment. Both the indexes and hands are coated in LumiBrite which is a luminous material which allows for easy visibility at night or the depths of the ocean. This watch has a water resistance of 200 metres, making it suitable for diving. This watch had the ability to generate its own power from the movement of the wearer, it was released in 1988. The listed technological developments serve as evidence to illustrate the revolutionary impact which Seiko has had on the watchmaking world.
