Seiko Special Edition Prospex PADI 1968 Recreation \'Pepsi\' Black Silicone Strap Diver\'s Men\'s Watch SPB087J1
Seiko Special Edition Prospex PADI 1968 Recreation \'Pepsi\' Black Silicone Strap Diver\'s Men\'s Watch SPB087J1 RRP £830 History: This Seiko PADI 1968 recreation is made possible by Seiko\'s relationship with PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) who are the world’s leading scuba diver training organization. The Prospex models place heavy focus on functionality in rigorous environments like the depths of the oceans. Seiko’s modern dive watch designs have often been inspired by the brand’s iconic dive models such as the reference 6159 from 1968, and the references 6105 and 6309 from the 1970s. The SPB087 takes its design cues from the vintage classic reference 6215 model from the late 1960s, especially apparent from its case design with the curved lugs and strong beveled edges. The case design was well received, so much so that it was carried over to another well-respected modern creation, the Marine Master 300 model (MM300) from the early 2000s. Style: The SPB087J1 model features PADI’s official colours of red and blue to celebrate their partnership for this model. This can be seen on the bezel which has been nicknamed the \'Pepsi bezel\' due to its likeness to the logo. The SPB087J1 lives and breathes inside a 44mm stainless steel case. The bezel has a unidirectional feature, essential for timing a dive. The PADI logo is also proudly presented in the centre of the dial with the date conveniently placed at three o’clock. Finally, the SPB087J1 comes outfitted with an updated silicone strap that is one of the most supple and comfortable dive straps we have encountered. This new iteration has fewer accordion folds at the lugs and a signed buckle accompanied by a single signed stainless steel keeper. Seriously, you might not want to take it off. Functions: The hands and indexes are coated in a material known as LumiBrite which allows for extraordinary visibility at the depths of the ocean. Like with every Seiko movement, the 6R15 caliber is built in-house. The 6R15 has a power reserve of 50 hours – thanks to its SPRON 510 mainspring, a patented alloy Seiko developed and sustains itself with the proprietary bi-directional Magic Lever self-winding system the brand invented in 1959. The movement beats at 21,600 vph with manual winding capability and a hack mechanism allowing proper synchronization of the seconds hand. This watch has a water resistance of 200 metres, making it suitable for diving. Made In Japan: For all you Seiko enthusiasts, this premium timepiece has been made and produced in Japan, indicated by the suffix \'J\'. Seiko watches made in Japan are notoriously hard to obtain outside of Japan due to the highest quality of craftmanship and astonishing features that come in each individual timepiece. We have a range of Japanese watches here at Watchnation but in limited quantities, so if you are looking to add to your collection then this is the perfect place for you. The water element is covered by the sea series. From the first diver’s watch released in 1965, Seiko has been exceeding expectations for divers with its innovative technology. A timepiece that guides you through the challenges in the deep blue. The sky element is covered by the sky series,  powerful timepieces that encompass all elements necessary to take control of the sky. Finally, the land series can be summed up as supporting the adventurer every step of the way. The Brand: Seiko Seiko’s 135-year history has been marked by a ceaseless determination to innovate in every aspect of the watchmaker’s art. By embracing this mantra, Seiko has been responsible for a string of industry-leading advances in the technology of time, such as the world’s first quartz watch, the world’s first TV watch, and the Seiko Kinetic, the first watch ever to generate its own electricity from the movement of the wearer. Seiko are unique in that they manufacture every aspect of every watch in-house, with this ruthless pursuit of perfection even including growing their own quartz crystals and sapphires.
