Seiko Prospex \'Antarctic Ice\' Automatic Blue Dial Blue Strap Limited Edition Mens Watch SLA055J1  Seiko Antarctic Ice Mens Watch SLA055J1 Prospex Automatic Limited Edition 1968 Professional Diver\'s Recreation limited to just 1,300 pieces worldwide.  The overall design of this watch is inspired by the Seiko 1968 Diver’s 300m watch – which was powered by the highest of world standards hi- beat calibre and was worn for the first ever Japanese Mount Everest expedition. In this modern version, several technical specifications have been upgraded and updated. The watch features the high-grade 8L35 mechanical calibre which was specially designed for diver’s watches. Consisting of 192 parts created with precise machining techniques, this timepiece is hand assembled and adjusted by watchmakers at the Shizukuishi Watch Studio in Morioka in the north of Japan. The design features the beauty of a highly reflective Zaratsu-polished case made from Seiko’s exclusive \"Ever-Brilliant Steel\" – with its brilliant white hue, this grade of steel is more corrosion resistant than that which is used in most high-end watches today. Prospex is a combination of the words \'Professional\' and \'Specifications.\' These timepieces are designed to be practical, reliable and durable within extreme or everyday environments, for experts, sports lovers and adventure seekers alike. Since launching Japan’s first diver’s watch in 1965, Seiko’s innovative watchmaking has changed global dive watch standard. The Case: The Seiko Prospex SLA055J1 features a 42.6mm case that is crafted out of Seiko’s ever-brilliant stainless steel, which is the equivalent of 904L steel that Rolex uses. The case was polished using Seiko’s zaratsu polishing technique, which is what provides the case with its distinctive mirrored finish. A 120-click black unidirectional bezel is positioned on top of the case; it exhibits a 60-minute scale that is presented in an icy blue hue. On the side of the case there is a screw down crown that is positioned at 4 o’clock, the positioning of the crown ensures that it does not dig into the wearer’s wrists. The watch also features a vintage looking anti-reflective dual-curved sapphire crystal.  The Dial: The colour of the dial is inspired by the Antarctic ice sheet, the largest block of ice on earth with a volume of approximately 30 million cubic kilometres. The watch will be worn by the 63rd Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition (JARE), as its members venture into the frozen continent. The colour of the gradient blue dial matches that of the accents on the bezel, as well as on the rehaut. The dial exhibits an uncomplicated layout, as it features a combination of circular and rectangular hour markers that have been filled with Seiko Lumibrite material ensuring that the dial can be read in the dark. A simple date-display window is nestled in between the 4 and 5 o’clock marker. A bold brushed stainless steel handset extends out from the centre of the dial, it has also been filled with Lumibrite material.  The Strap: The watch comes presented on a soft black silicone strap, which exhibits a ‘clous de paris-esque’ style pattern. It also comes with an additional NATO polyester strap made by using seichu, a traditional Japanese braiding technique that results in a soft and strong strap.  The Functions: This timepiece is powered by Seiko’s 8L35 automatic movement which provides the watch with a power reserve of 50 hours and an accuracy of +15/-10 seconds per day.
