Exclusive to Curious Egg. This beautiful limited edition print is one in a small edition of 50 created from the stunning original artworks in oils on aluminium by Scottish artist Gill Walton. They are giglee prints made using museum standard inks on the highest quality Hahnemuhle photorag paper which captures the vibrancy of colour so carefully applied in the originals. ‘I love drama and narrative in paintings and the ones you see here are based on performers in the Peking opera. I collect chinoiserie and Willow pattern porcelain and I’m inspired by the delicacy of movement yet the strength of the opera performances. I decided to make the figures look like they are made of strong porcelain, I also played with the colours in the headdresses deciding to use a strong cobalt blue which is the pigment used in the traditional willow pattern and paired it with my favourite yellow.
